Job Title: Academy Pianist

Reports To: Musician Librarian & Pianists’ Manager  

Classification: Salaried- Exempt


The Academy Pianist is responsible for piano accompaniment for Academy rehearsals and ballet class.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned;

  • Piano accompaniment for Academy classes and rehearsals
  • Maintaining the Academy piano music library and personal class book
  • May be requested to play Company class, Company studio rehearsals and HB II rehearsals and performances
  • Communicating music requests made by Academy teachers to the Music Librarian/Pianists’ Coordinator
  • Confirming daily the personal rehearsal schedule
  • Playing no more than 6 hrs. per day
  • Checking schedule when posted
  • Limit of 2 intermediate/upper level tech. (1.5 hrs or greater) classes per day


  • Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance or certification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Ability to oversee multiple tasks, prioritize work and be able to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc

 Physical Demands:

  • Bending legs downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Ascending or descending stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
  • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.

Work Environment:

  • Well-lighted, heated and /or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
  • Regular—Monday-Friday 8-5, available weekends as needed.
  • Moderate overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/ or air.
